EPCIS INTEGRATION

EPCIS integration.
Make the event understandable.

Connect product identifiers, event data and trading-partner requirements in a clearly scoped exchange.

01 / THE WORKFLOW

Agree on the data before the connection.

Two systems need more than a destination address to exchange useful event data. Review the EPCIS version, identifier conventions, event types and partner expectations before testing the handoff.

    Source

The system that produces the product and event information.

  2. 02

    Event record

The structured data describing the relevant activity.

  3. 03

    Recipient

The partner or system that needs to interpret the information.

THE WORK, MADE VISIBLE

An EPCIS exchange has a business meaning.

For a receiving flow, agree on the identifier scheme, event type and the way the receiving location is represented. Then test whether the recipient can interpret the intended business context. A syntactically valid payload can still describe the wrong location or business step.

  1. 01

    Source activity

Identify the event recorded by the operation.

  2. 02

    Event model

Represent identifiers, time, location and context.

  3. 03

    Connection

Exchange the payload through the agreed interface.

  4. 04

    Interpretation

Confirm that the recipient understands the event.

02 / THE WORKFLOW

Test the contract between systems.

Use a representative payload, an expected business outcome and a response scenario. Confirm what happens when the payload is accepted, when a field needs review and when a delivery receipt is unavailable.

01

Format and version

Confirm XML or JSON requirements and the exact supported EPCIS version.

02

Transport

Specify the protocol, endpoints and authentication requirements.

03

Operations

Assign responsibility for monitoring, investigation and changes.

03 / THE WORKFLOW

One standard does not make every implementation identical.

Partner specifications and supported versions matter. The product concept demonstrates an EPCIS XML document workflow; review additional formats, versions and interfaces against your requirements.

A CLEARER PICTURE

Questions worth
asking.

Is EPCIS the transport protocol?

EPCIS defines event data and interfaces. The practical connection also requires agreement on the supported implementation, transport and security configuration.

Does a delivered file mean the business record was accepted?

Not necessarily. Include both delivery acknowledgment and business-level validation in your acceptance criteria.
